Explore Our InstituteThe Indian Institute of Advanced Study (IIAS) is a premier research institute established in 1965 under the Ministry of Education, Government of India. It is housed in the historic Rashtrapati Niwas (formerly the Viceregal Lodge) in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh.
The Institute's mandate is to provide a conducive environment for reflective thought and to promote interdisciplinary research in humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences. It offers fellowships to scholars to pursue advanced research free from teaching and administrative responsibilities.
